Growing Old ….like Michael Eaton

Michael Eaton has destroyed my Growing Old series!!
 
His brain and ability to use it are an inspiration to us all.  That is the way to grow old or ‘mature in the faith’, loving God and His word more than ever.
 
As I contemplate last week and the teaching by Michel Eaton I am amazed by what a gift he is to our church and to our lives.  
 
His dedication to years of study of God’s word; his ability to remember what he has studied and make it live for today, are truly inspiring.
 
I come away from a week like that with a greater desire to know God’s word and to know God.  Michael’s stamina and understanding of the word makes me want to run well and finish the race set before me.
 
When I think of him I am reminded of Peter’s words concerning Paul in his letter II
Peter 3:15,16.   
 
“And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters.  There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.”
 
We need to pay attention to God’s word when it is preached.  We should allow it to
speak to us, challenge our old thought patterns and to change our lives.  No matter what
our age we can keep on learning and growing deeper in God, it’s a never ending process
completed when we see Jesus face to face!!
