I've been amazed at how far my new Nokia p90 camera can zoom in and
suprisingly take recognizable pictures! Love at first test drive! Man,
I haven't even begun to explore all the many great functions on this
nifty little camera! As I was drawn deeper and deeper into taking
pictures of ostriches, zebras, guinea fowls and ducks I realized how
my initial amazement shifted from the wonder of my surroundings to
the mechanical abilities of my new camera.
Isn't it true how easily we shift our focus on the object of our
worship? Remember that day you tasted His goodness for the first time?
The colours of the leaves, the stream of the morning sun through the
window, the happy chirping of birds in the trees...all of it seemed to
bear more purpose and shout of God's overpowering beauty. You were
love sick, totally enamoured by Him, and nothing else mattered!
Remember your first bible and all the rich discoveries emphatically
underlined and noted in the margins of the gospels? What about all
those geniune and sincere questions you had because you could not get
enough of this Creator God? And then you joined a church with other
lovers of God, who were better at it than you. You were suddenly
overwhelmed by the imperfections in your own life. "How will I ever be
holy?" you asked yourself.
This is the year to reclaim the wonder, to boast in the simplicity of
the gospel again. This is the time to recapture the romance in our
marriages, where it seems every sunset has been carved out just for
the two of us. I plan to spend a little less energy on mowing the lawn
on Saturdays and more on discovering the goggas in the grass with my
boys. I want to laugh and play and explore the small miracles that God
took the time to dream up.
Let's hold to Christ fiercely and cling lightly to our egos this year.
We have nothing to lose but that which we never had to gain.
