What is so fabulous about faith?

Jul 02, 2009

We live in a society that think with their feelings and believe with their eyes. Famous are the sayings; “I will believe it if I can see it”, or one of my personal irritations; “how can it be wrong if it feels so right”. Billions of Rands are spent in advertising trying to stimulate the sensory systems (see, hear, touch, taste, smell) of a western society with huge buying power.

But right there is part of the problem for Bible reading, believing Christians. We are all called to walk and live by faith, but faith is no respecter of Western society, or its over stimulated sensory systems. Faith is the simple yet powerful medium by which we please an awesome God. Don’t get me wrong, God is not needy, He is already perfectly pleased in Himself. But as His children we have an intense desire to live in a way that is pleasing before Him. God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.

According to my dictionary the word fabulous means:
•    Almost impossible to believe, incredible.
•    Exceptionally good or unusual, marvelous, superb.
•    Told about in fables, purely imaginary.
•    Known about through myths or legends.

Jesus made the most fabulous statement in Mark 11 to his disciples. He commands them to have faith in God. That sounds pretty straightforward, I believe in God, that He exists, that He is the creator of all of the known and the unknown universe, that He dwells in glorious light and that He knows my name. But Jesus then explains that faith is more than able to cast mountains in the midst of the sea, all that is required for us is to not doubt. FABULOUS?

But wait a minute friend, that sounds impossible, what do you take me for, no one hoodwinks me you know. Doubt is the reciprocal of faith, faith has an ability to cast mountains into the depths of the sea, but doubt has an ability to keep mountains right where they are. Faith makes God fabulously big and mighty, doubt makes God fabulously small and puny.

The fact is if you believe it or not, the Bible testifies of a big God, a God that dwells with comfort in the realm of the impossible. Jesus said that what is impossible for man, is possible for God. Nothing is impossible for those that call with faith in the name of the Lord. He takes five loaves and two fish and feeds a multitude, He calms a mighty storm with a two words, He makes the lame walk, the deaf hear, the blind see, He even raised Lazarus from the dead with tears on his cheek. Absolutely fabulous!!

In the last week I saw the fabulous, miracle working ability of God in our lives.  Personal experience of his faithfulness is the great reward of seeking Him diligently. All we need is to believe that what God said will come to pass. Joshua boasts over the faithfulness of God, that not one of the words that He promised fell to the ground. Not one? Fabulous!

Today you can take a stand in front of your mountain and cast it into the sea, all you need to do is have faith in God and not doubt. If it takes a second or ten years makes no difference, God cannot lie, He is light and in Him is no darkness. Faith is absolutely fabulous because we serve a faithful God.
