Connect - The not so valentines picnic

CONNECT had it's anniversary picnic on the 13th of
February.  This year we celebrated 'not' Valentines,
instead of 'anti' Valentines like last year.  Unlike last
year, where we only had singles roaming about, this year we
intertwined the singles with the couples.  We were
astounded at how many unfamiliar faces there were.  This
must be a sign that young adults want to CONNECT with each
    other!

Everyone arrived dressed up in formal wear and as the sun
set, candles were lit up all around the picnic blankets.
John Mayer crooned in the background, and other lively
music joined him.  The agenda for the evening: mingle and
have fun.  Some people stayed in their little groups,
others moved around and met new friends, the setting was
laid back.  The ladies were romanced with red roses being
handed out all around.  Later on the dance floor was opened
    for some 'lang-arm sokkie'.

I cannot vouch for others, but I had a few deep
conversations, even received spot-on word from a stranger!
At the end of the evening we started packing up between
the last lingering people.  We had made arrangements with
the neighbours to be in the park till eleven and ADT came
to check up on us, but the evening went by without any
    hiccups.

The idea of the social evening was to make people aware of
our plans to establish CONNECT as a forum where young
adults can meet, interact and "grapple" with issues
pertaining to this age group.  We had a good response of
people leaving their details to be contacted about future
meetings. (even someone from another religion put down
    their contact info!)

Our 'not' Valentines picnic was open to anyone.  The idea
was to not only invite people from 3Ci, not even just
Christians.  Hopefully in this informal setting people had
the opportunity to investigate Christianity lived out, as
well as see the effect that being part of a local church
    could have on your life.

Last year we had the testimony of a couple meeting each
other at the picnic, and they got married last year
September.  Hopefully this year again we will have many
lasting testimonies flowing out from this one evening.

Our goal with CONNECT is to create a space for young adults
to interact and become equipped to live life effectively as
modern day Christians.  The year has started off with a
bang, and we look forward with excitement to see what God
can do with our little ideas, He turns them into something
    great every time.
